Over the two days, you will learn enough Mandarin and enough about the Chinese language system to be able to use Primary Mandarin Games 1-7 and their accompanying Teacher’s Guides to deliver quality, meaningful and exciting lessons over the course of a first academic year.
You will learn to recognise more than 50 commonly used characters, develop a strategy for recording the pronunciation of characters, learn about the 4 main tones of Mandarin as well as developing the basic oracy skills required to start teaching straight away.
A planning session on Day 2 gives you an opportunity to map out plans for the year in line with national requirements and explore how to adapt the games and guides to suit you and the needs of the children in your class. The course finishes with a look at additional online materials to support the next steps in your Mandarin teaching and learning.
All participating teachers to receive: 7 card decks (Oracle Bones Memory Match, Ling and 5 different versions of the Radical Families decks) and 3 downloadable Teacher’s Guides (1-3).
On this course you’ll be given plenty of opportunities to refresh and extend language content covered in Learn and Teach Mandarin: A Beginners Course. You will reflect on your teaching and learning to date, explore how to maximise learning from the games and guides and look at practical ideas on how to further embed Mandarin in your primary curriculum.
On this one-day course, you will learn enough Mandarin and enough about the Chinese language system to be able to use Primary Mandarin Games 8-11 and their accompanying Teacher’s Guides to deliver quality, meaningful and exciting lessons over the course of a second academic year.
The day begins with a masterclass in Chinese characters. You’ll explore how the character system works, try out different strategies for learning Chinese characters and learn some of the 68 most commonly used character components which feature in games 8-11. In the afternoon, you will get plenty of opportunities to develop your ability to identify tones, learn remaining initial and final pinyin sounds and learn to answer key questions about you and your family. The day finishes with an opportunity to examine Teacher’s Guides 4 – 6 and learn about free, online language resources to support future Mandarin learning.
All participating teachers to receive: 4 card decks (Kankan, Radical Trumps Part 1 and Part 2, Pattern Pairs ) and 3 downloadable Teacher’s Guides (4-6).
On this course you’ll be given plenty of opportunities to refresh and extend language content covered in Learn and Teach Mandarin: Next Steps . There will be a focus on pronunciation, increasing your repertoire of classroom language and reviewing your understanding of pinyin.
This course provides specialist teachers with hands on experience of 5 different card games and their accompanying Teacher’s Guides. You will have opportunities to reflect on how these games and guides can be adapted to suit the needs of children in your class as well as practical experience of planning a series of progressive lessons for your class using the games and guides.
